Mondo Las Vegas:
More about Golden Gate Hotel and Casino:This was the second hotel on this site. The first was the Hotel Nevada from Jan 13, 1906. Rooms were a dollar a day. The first telephone in town was installed herein 1907. It ran strictly as a hotel for years before finally succumbing to the gambling hall fever. It changed it's name to Sal Sagev in 1931. But when the Golden Gate Bridge opened up in San Francisco in 1937 it wasn't until 1955 when a group of Italian Americans from S.F. came to Vegas to open up a casino and the name of the hotel was changed again to the Golden Gate in honor of their former city. Throughout the casino, you will see historic pictures of the city by the bay.Speaking of the casino, it is charming and intimate and a great place to place single deck blackjack (some nights). Former Mayor Laverty dubbed the building "Las Vegas Most historic Hotel" in a 1996 ceremony. At only 106 rooms, it is indeed a thing of the past and we love it for that. The famous shrimp cocktail was first introduced here and you can still order a 99 cent one, and yes, they still are good.
