Mondo Las Vegas:
More about Fremont Street Experience:Free light show over the Fremont Street Pedestrian Mall.70 million dollars to make it, 17 million dollars to upgrade it and it still is a flop. The Fremont Street "Experience" is not worth the trip, but the surrounding are is, so you may as well look up when you're there. 550,000 watt sound system accompanies the images suspended 90 feet overhead.for 1400 feet. The images are created by "12.5 milion synchronized LED modules including 180 strobes and 8 robotic mirrors per block." Sure it's impressive, but is it interesting? Nah. Well, maybe for the first 30 seconds, then ho hum after that. The 'shows' last from 6 to 9 minutes. My favorite one is the "Amercan Freedom" show because I am a sucker for patriotic displays and with Walt Disney gone, there is no one else chamionin these knds of displays of love of country. The Fremont Street Experience was developed in 1995 by the Jerde Partnership. It is appropriate to have an electronic light display as the main attraction here. The first electric lights in town were turned on Fremont Street in 1907 so it's no wonder Fremont Street developed into Glitter Gulch. The first Vegas neon light turned on in 1934 was at the Boulder Club. The light filled canopy was and still is controversial. Whie turning the street into pedestraian mall was probably one of THE smartest decisions the city ever made. However, the overhead lighting display is usually scorned by locals and visitors don't seem too impressed with it either. The Fremont Street Experience dwarfs Vegas Vic and Vegas Vicky mamking you feel like they're in some kind of some kind of low ceiling cramped hallway. I say bring back the Gliltter Gulch Fremont Street of Diamonds are Forever era and then you'll really have something. The one saving grace is that the Neon Sign Museum has also contributed to the area with their vintage sign displays. My wish is that the city would put have put at least half of that 70 million into a restoration of the Neon Museum's complete collection and and make Fremont Street Giltter Gulch on overdrive. Just imagine the intensity of all that neon and flicker bulbs in one place! The shows go off at 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 PM and midnight nightly.
