More about Flamingo 'Hilton' Hotel:

The Flamino Hotel was designed by George Vernon Russell in 1946. It was expanded in later iterations by Pereira and Luckman, Douglas Honnold, Homer J. Rissman and others.

The 1992 movie, "Bugsy" loosely follows the history of this casino built by mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, a member of the Meyer Lansky crime organization. Bugsy's idea was to model the resort after the finer hotels in Miami with as opposed to following the trend to do old West themes. The current tall neon sign out front is by Raul Rodriguez (1976, Original Pylon by Bill Clarke AD-Art 1968).

The low-rise private suite of Bugsy was behind the main building where the current pool is. Rumor is that there were escape tunnels stemming out from Bugy's Suite.

Elvis Trivia! Although the pool area has been radically redone into a 15 acre wildlife habitat (flamingos, swans, turtles; penguin feeding is around 3 in the afternoon), this IS where Elvis and Ann-Margret sang "The Lady Loves Me" by the original pool in "Viva Las Vegas."

Celebrities who have performed here through the years include: Steve Allen, Paul Anka, Peal Bailey, Kaye Ballard, Count Basie and his Orchestra, Milton Berle, Ray Bolger, Pat Boone, Nat King Cole, Bill Cosby, Xavier Cugat, Vic Damone, Bobby Darin, Phyllis Diller, Fats Domino, Jimmy Durante, Ella Fitzgerald, Mitzi Gaynor, Betty Grable, Frank Gorshin, Don Ho, Lena Horne, Burl Ives, Harry James, Spike Jones, Tom Jones, Alan King, Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin, Peggy Lee, Joe E. Lewis, Rose Marie, Tony Martin, Wayne Newton, Juliet Prowse, Joan Rivers, The Supremes, Danny Thomas, Dionne Warwick, and Shelly Winters. In one historical moment in 1957, Judy Garland asked her then 11 year old daughter, Liza, to come on stage and sing a duet with her.
