Built by Martin Stern, Jr. in 1972/1973, it was formerly MGM Grand #1.This was the site of one of the worst hotel fire disasters in history in 1980 that revolutionized fire codes in the city. But more important, remember the commercials for Bally's when Sinatra played here? Sinatra tipped Steve Wynn (then current Bally's owner) and asked for extra towels as if he was a bellboy!
Bally's bills itself as "timeless glamour" and a jewel of the strip. I don't know about that? I still have not forgiven them for not continuing to hire Vargas as their Indigo lounge entertainment. Please tell the management to bring Vargas back if you visit there. They have a moving sidewalk that transports you from the strip into the casino that coulda shoulda been so much more considering the kind of money they spent on it. It ends up being a "B" version of a Logan's Run adventure. Bally's is also home to The Strip's most eye-catching review. Annually rated as a top show in Las Vegas, Donn Arden's Jubilee! has dazzled crowds with larger-than-life productions and gorgeous showgirls for more than 20 years.
