From 1951 to 1961 a series of once-a-month nuclear blast tests took place only 65 miles northwest of the city. Women sported atomic blast shaped beehives. Tourists ate atomic burgers. If you book far enough in advance, you, too, can have a private tour of the Nevada test site! I'm sure you'll give it glowing reviews.

Here is one of the best bars from the era complete with a friendly staff. Possibly endangered only because of the rampant development downtown.
